Moulin de Gassac - Viognier - White Wine - 2016 - 750 ml
Medium-bodied and supple, with gentle Viognier stone fruit and sweet apricot flavours, with shades of pear and pineapple too. Very bright and easy to drink(none of the oiliness that you get sometimes with this grape), with a clean, dry finish.
Delicious on its own or with ceviche or chicken curry.
Made from 100% Viognier grown on clay-limestone terroir near the Thau Lagoon. Fermented at cool temperatures to fully retain all the delicious peachy fruit, the young wine is aged for 5 months in stainless steel before release.
Viognier is the great white of France's northern Rhône, where it is the grape behind super-premium appellations Condrieu and Château Grillet. Elsewhere, it is widely grown across the south of France, where it often disappears into blends. Interestingly, it is often blended into red Shiraz wines too, although it rarely comprises more than 5% of the finished wine.
Variously described as “Lafite in the Languedoc,” “the only Grand Cru of the Midi,” and “exceptional,” Mas de Daumas Gassac has consistently been the Languedoc gold standard for the past four decades. The 80-hectare, organically-farmed estate is located deep in the sultry Midi, but enjoys a temperate microclimate as a result of altitude, which gives the wines a lovely deftness of touch.
