In 1971, the Guibert family bought an old farm called Mas de Daumas Gassac, 30 mins drive north of the Mediterranean. It was the discovery of red glacial soils that led to the planting of what would become the Grand Cru vineyards of the Languedoc. The estate now includes 52 separate vineyard plots, each surrounded by dense garrigue and forest. The vines are farmed with respect to preserve the natural environment and the grapes are hand harvested.
This estate blend of red grapes - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and up to 20 other rare varietals - is aged for 18 months in small oak casks. Once bottled, the wine's flavours are robust and intense, especially for the first 5-7 years from vintage. After that its complexity and depth intensify for up to 25 years, if you can resist. Be sure to decant for heightened enjoyment. Great finesse and complexity. Lay down for ten or more years from vintage, or drink now.
