DELAMOTTE

Founded in 1760 by vineyard owner François Delamotte, Champagne Delamotte is the fifth oldest producer in the region. The House has passed through many generations and even changed name at one point but was re-established as Delamotte in the late 1940s when it came into the hands of the de Nonancourt family. One of the most legendary figures in the Champagne industry, Bernard de Nonancourt managed Delamotte until 1988, when Champagne Laurent-Perrier purchased the business. After also buying the prestigious House of Champagne Salon in 1989, they officially joined the two companies and took over management of both.

Next-door neighbours in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne Salon and Champagne Delamotte remain sister companies today. Whilst Salon originates from the same twenty plots in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Delamotte now owns six hectares in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, including in Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. However, in the years when Salon does not declare a vintage, Delamotte has the first right to the Salon grapes.

Champagne Delamotte

Description

The Brut from Delamotte is an atypical champagne which breaks the mould of non-vintage brut champagne, which is too often stereotyped.

The Delamotte Brut offers a measured balance between intense fruit and lively minerality.

The refreshing lightness is due to the majority of Chardonnay in the blend, with structure and fruit brought by the Pinot Noir and density by the Pinot Meunier.

36 months cellar ageing adds supplementary smoothness and maturity.

The nose offers lovely bready and fruity aromas, with white fleshed fruits, pear and a touch of ginger in the mouth.

It is a champagne which is absolutely perfect for aperitif.

        Description

The Blanc de Blancs from Delamotte is a masterful interpretation of the most noble terroirs of the Côte des Blancs, made from Chardonnay grown on the Grand Cru terroirs of Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant.

The minerality in this Blanc de Blancs is derived from the chalky soils of the vineyards.

The nose is graceful, floral, mineral.

The palate opens with elegance and verve, beautifully ethereal, reflecting the same floral notes as found on the nose but with a supplementary touch of salinity.

The aromas of this Blanc de Blancs have been polished and rounded by 4 to 5 years in the Delamotte cellars.

Excellent for a summer aperitif or served with a plate of oysters or grilled fish.

                            Description

2007 was not the most straightforward vintage, but like all vintages, it was marked by certain key events. A surprisingly mild winter and an exceptionally warm winter made for an early and promising start to the growing season.
However, the growth was hindered by a cold rainy August, following a sunny weather leading to a rise in temperature and the grapes were fast-tracked to ripeness.
Harvest began as early as August 30th for Chardonnay, Grands Crus delivering impeccable fruit with a fine balance of acidity and potential alcohol.

This wine will continue to develop and refine its charms way into the future – way beyond 2030 without a doubt.

EYE: Soft gold with green reflections its glows by its countless small bubbles.
NOSE: The aroma of white flowers, orange blossom, jasmine, hints of Williams pear and uplifting spearmint.
MOUTH: Honeyed and spiked with citrus, youthful and maturing as it lingers in the mouth.

Highly-anticipated wine despite the year (early blooming, storm, hail), Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Collection 2000 Champagne is round and surprising to the palate.

Charismatic vintage, this wine truly represents complexity and richness of the grand cuvee. Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Collection 2000 is delicate, supple and rich.

"The 1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs is a beautifully nuanced wine. Here the Chardonnay speaks with notable eloquence, often drawing parallels with the wines of Burgundy. The mousse is exceptionally finessed and the wine offers great depth as well as richness. The essence of crushed rocks, smoke and minerals are layered beautifully in the polished finish."Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #186 Dec 2009
                                                    Delamotte Brut Jeroboam

The Delamotte Collection wines are very rare, all hand disgorged and hand labeled only when they are ready to drink. 1985 was a stunning vintage in Champagne and one of my favourites. It was a year of extremes, starting with a very cold (Savage) winter that reduced the yields. Summer was very hot (Up to 40 degrees) and then a normal September, producing a small harvest that was of exceptional quality. Both the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were perfectly balanced. For lovers of mature Champagne, this beautiful Les Mesnil Blanc de Blancs is drinking wonderfully at over 30 years old with crème patisserie and a hint of caramel on the nose, then a full vinous palate with high toned toffee apple richness. A food Champagne.
