Description

Most recent in a line of non-vintage blends from chardonnay grapes, this harmonious and deliberately seducing Blanc de Blancs will bewitch you. Its striking golden luminosity is further enhanced by the clear glass bottle, a replica from an 18th Century model.

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs presents a pale golden yellow color with beautiful luminosity and striking brilliance.

The nose is very intense. On the palate, the wine is very supple, round and harmonious, with rich notes of brioche, honey, and crispiness on the long, sustained finish.

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs releases its harmonious and delicate freshness when it is drunk cold, around 8 to 9 degrees.

        Champagne Dom Ruinart 2004

        Description

The prestige cuvée of Champagne Ruinart, Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is a Grand Cru only, pure-Chardonnay blend. With grapes sourced predominantly from the Côte des Blancs, this cuvée is a firm and muscular champagne with a reductive style that rewards patience if left in the cellar. The 2004 expression is much more restrained that its predecessors, with good balancing acidity and the lowest dosage yet. This lower dosage is all part of protecting the character and delicacy of the vintage by helping to inhibit oxidation.

Weather: The 2004 vintage saw an initial winter of mild temperatures with intermittent storms and hail. The spring and summer months were hot and sunny and the sugar levels late in September produced good quality fruits, especially for the Pinot Noir grapes. A huge harvest in general for the region. Overall many experts believe that 2004 is one of the greatest vintages of the last two decades.

Tasting Note: A luminous yellow with pale green reflections. The nose reveals gentle notes of chestnut, coconut and fresh bread. In the mouth there is a citrus fruit freshness and a delicate mousse with real, long lingering flavours that you'd expect from such a great champagne. Very accessible now in its youth, this is sure to evolve in complexity with time.

                            Description

The Blanc de Blancs from Delamotte is a masterful interpretation of the most noble terroirs of the Côte des Blancs, made from Chardonnay grown on the Grand Cru terroirs of Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant.

The minerality in this Blanc de Blancs is derived from the chalky soils of the vineyards.

The nose is graceful, floral, mineral.

The palate opens with elegance and verve, beautifully ethereal, reflecting the same floral notes as found on the nose but with a supplementary touch of salinity.

The aromas of this Blanc de Blancs have been polished and rounded by 4 to 5 years in the Delamotte cellars.

Excellent for a summer aperitif or served with a plate of oysters or grilled fish.

                                  Description

The Blanc de Blancs from Billecart-Salmon is devised from Chardonnay selected from each of the five Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs : Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, and is the result of blending two different vintages. It is the pure expression of all the specificities of Chardonnay.

Strongly anchored in tradition, such as the use of barrels for the grand crus, Billecart-Salmon age their bottles in an extended network of caves cut out of the chalk hills, dating from the 17th and 19th century. The constant temperature – around 12°, enables a very fine effervescence to develop.

Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs presents a fine mousse with very delicate bubbles which complement the golden hues of the robe.

The nose surprises with its aromas of almond mingled with white fleshed fruits.

The palate is complex and powerful with an agreeable vinosity. The final is fresh and elegant.

The Delamotte Collection wines are very rare, all hand disgorged and hand labeled only when they are ready to drink. 1985 was a stunning vintage in Champagne and one of my favourites. It was a year of extremes, starting with a very cold (Savage) winter that reduced the yields. Summer was very hot (Up to 40 degrees) and then a normal September, producing a small harvest that was of exceptional quality. Both the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were perfectly balanced. For lovers of mature Champagne, this beautiful Les Mesnil Blanc de Blancs is drinking wonderfully at over 30 years old with crème patisserie and a hint of caramel on the nose, then a full vinous palate with high toned toffee apple richness. A food Champagne.
"The 1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs is a beautifully nuanced wine. Here the Chardonnay speaks with notable eloquence, often drawing parallels with the wines of Burgundy. The mousse is exceptionally finessed and the wine offers great depth as well as richness. The essence of crushed rocks, smoke and minerals are layered beautifully in the polished finish."Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate #186 Dec 2009

Highly-anticipated wine despite the year (early blooming, storm, hail), Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Collection 2000 Champagne is round and surprising to the palate.

Charismatic vintage, this wine truly represents complexity and richness of the grand cuvee. Delamotte Blanc de Blancs Collection 2000 is delicate, supple and rich.

With hints of rose petals, red fruits, citrus fruits, mandarin orange and also white pepper, the Brut Nature Rosé unveils another facet of rosé Champagne.

Here everything is purity. In the culmination of a process which over the years has led us to reduce the quantity of sulphites in our Champagnes, no sulphur is added to this cuvée during the different stages of vinification, allowing the Pinot Noir to express itself in perfect freedom. Without dosage but even so exhibiting a remarkable roundness thanks to the maturity of the fruit and the time spent down in our cellars, this cuvée evokes lovely apples and Williams pear, with a hint of citrus fruits.

                                                    Description

Brut Nature by Drappier was one of the very first undosed champagnes, that is, with no addition of sugar. It is ideal as an aperitif to sharpen the palate.

« In fact it was the champagne that we used to drink amongst ourselves in the evening after a hard day’s work in the vines or the cellar » explains Michel Drappier, « I would never have thought of commercializing it, but one day a visiting sommelier tried a bottle and loved it immediately. That’s how it all started ! »

Made uniquely from Pinot Noir, and cellared for 3 years to add maturity and suppleness, it is an intense, highly structured champagne with expressive fruit.

Brilliant in aspect, it’s lightly coppery glints are enhanced by fine and lively bubbles.

Intensely fruity on the nose, concentrated and fresh, the red fruits and vine peach aromas are joined by quince, blackcurrant and gingerbread on the palate.

With its fresh, clean finish Drappier Brut Nature is also the perfect companion for oysters.

                                                          Description
Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively from the Grand Crus of the Côte des Blancs. The must undergoes two settlings, one at the press house immediately after pressing and another in Pol Roger's famous stainless-steel tanks. Second fermentation takes place in the coolest Pol Roger cellars, thirty-three metres below ground level at temperatures of just 9°C, some 2-3°C cooler than the cellars of other producers. The cooler cellars slow down bottle fermentation, producing a champagne with finer bubbles, a characteristic for which these small production releases of Pol Roger are known for. The final blend is aged for seven years in the cellars before disgorgment and release.

Weather: After a rainy but mild winter without any prolonged cold spells, spring arrived with some very localised frosts. Cool weather returned in June and the infrequent sunshine prolonged the feeling of freshness. The spring to autumn weather was bright with sunny spells and the long, hot days and cool nights during September gave the grapes excellent acidity during the harvest period. The 2008 vintage is fast emerging as one of the best since the renowned and now-legendary 2002.
Tasting Note: This youthful champagne is a pale yellow-gold with hints of grapefruit and almond on the nose. Still quite restrained on first impression but with those early signs of Chardonnay richness waiting to burst out. Slightly more giving on the palate - the delicious, creamy and full-bodied character is already starting to show and the flavours linger beautifully. Give this champagne some time and it will develop, open up and really show its full potential.

Only grapes of exceptional maturity are used in this vintage cuvee blended from equal parts of Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir.

Other Pinots Meuniers and the Pinots Noirs come from the villages of Vrigny, and Coulommes la Montagne, from terroirs classified Premier Cru.

Salon 1999 is the 37th and last vintage of the XXth century produced by this mythical champagne house.

In a hundred years of harvests, Salon chose to produce only 37 vintages - only 37 years were good enough to satisfy their high standards. 37 vintages with the same credo: a single terroir, Mesnil-sur-Oger, a single grape variety, Chardonnay, and always one single year. But they remain 37 different vintages, each with their own singularity.

The Salon 1999 is still young, a vintage in the making; powerful, deep and complex, with dastardly charm!

Salon 1999 is a luminous pale gold, tinged with green glints with a lively, but at this stage still discreet nose, on notes of white flowers and white fleshed fruits.

The attack is clean, focused, with the palate showing structure and precision. The creaminess of the effervescence swirls around the aromas of brioche, fresh bread, white flowers, white fruits and a touch of bitter almond.

The final is crystal bright with citrus fruits and prodigious length.

An absolutely amazing champagne which needs nothing to accompany it, but if desired it will flatter grilled oysters, caviar, Parma ham, a great Iberian “pata negra” or a 36 month aged heart of Parmesan.

                                                                      Characteristics

2002 was the first vintage of the 21st century for Salon, a very special champagne house that only produced 37 vintage champagnes during the whole of the previous century. It goes without saying that the Salon vinotheque is composed uniquely of exceptional cuvees !

All the virtuosity and singularity of the house of Salon is represented in this 2002 vintage: a superb chalky minerality, a touch of white flowers, notes of brioche, a hint of salinity and, of course, the ever present creamy effervescence.

2002 was one of the most prodigious years in Champagne, with its perfect climatic conditions creating unsurpassed grape quality with perfect balance between acidity and sweetness.

Salon 2002 is a shimmering pale with nuances of green. Complex aromas of delicate orange blossom, crystallised citrus fruits and little sponge cakes fresh from the oven abound on the nose.

sugar and acidity. It was an extraordinary show of power from deep inside the vines, an explosion of quality that had had been building quietly for an entire year, deep within the earth, in the vines themselves, the product of the soil, the wind, the rain, the sun, until finally, surpassing all their hopes, this champagne surged forth: like a serene volcano, it simmered quietly before unleashing its true nature, as if by surprise, with the Salon 2004 vintage.

It pairs well with simple shellfish, fine fish or oyster ( with a touch a Japanese seaweed), or with a great Parma or Iberico ham.

EYE: The pale colourflashing with green, the tiny bubbles rising dynamically on their gossamer thread, hallmarks of the vintage.
NOSE: An impressive nose with notes of minerals, gun-flint, stones, smoked tea, just a touch of mint.
MOUTH: The wine is all purity and fine acidity. The magnificent salinity of this great white wine, still in its first flush of youth, offers a suitable foil to the ripe chardonnay fruit, emerging gently but surely, with hints of brioche, warm bread and fresh yeast characters tiptoeing in behind. The wine becomes rounder as it airs in the glass, revealing a beautiful vinosity, the curve counter-balancing its acidity to perfection. And on the finish, the merest hint of bitterness, the signature of so many truly great wines.

                                                                                  Characteristics

And there lies its true enigma and charm. To know restraint but be generous, to combine lightness with solidity. This sense of duality is confirmed in the impeccable palate structure. Simultaneously rich and incisive, with the fine linear acidity to permit cellaring for 30 years, Salon 2006 has a long future ahead.

2007 was not the most straightforward vintage, but like all vintages, it was marked by certain key events. A surprisingly mild winter and an exceptionally warm winter made for an early and promising start to the growing season.
However, the growth was hindered by a cold rainy August, following a sunny weather leading to a rise in temperature and the grapes were fast-tracked to ripeness.
Harvest began as early as August 30th for Chardonnay, Grands Crus delivering impeccable fruit with a fine balance of acidity and potential alcohol.

This wine will continue to develop and refine its charms way into the future – way beyond 2030 without a doubt.

EYE: Soft gold with green reflections its glows by its countless small bubbles.

NOSE: The aroma of white flowers, orange blossom, jasmine, hints of Williams pear and uplifting spearmint.
MOUTH: Honeyed and spiked with citrus, youthful and maturing as it lingers in the mouth.
